Clinical Pharmacist for GP Practice & PCN – Remote (Non-Prescriber)

About the Role

Virtual Pharmacist is recruiting a remote clinical pharmacist to support GP practices and primary care networks (PCNs) across England. This role does not require an Independent Prescriber qualification – we welcome applications from experienced clinical pharmacists who deliver high-quality medicines optimisation and structured medication review work within a supervised prescribing framework.

This locum position is available under the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS), giving PCNs access to fully funded, experienced clinical pharmacist resource with no recruitment overhead. The role is entirely home-based, working directly within GP practice clinical systems (EMIS Web or SystmOne).

  • Salary: £26 – £28 per hour (self-employed contractor)
  • Contract type: Locum – 12 months
  • Hours: Part-time, minimum 18 hours per week (flexible)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct structured medication reviews (SMRs) under clinical governance framework
  • Manage acute prescription request reviews and medication queries
  • Support discharge medication reconciliation
  • Manage long-term conditions (LTC) clinics: diabetes, hypertension, asthma, COPD
  • Contribute to QOF and IIF targets
  • Deliver medicines optimisation and high-risk drug monitoring
  • Work collaboratively with GP partners, clinical directors, and the wider PCN multidisciplinary team

Requirements

  • GPhC-registered pharmacist in good standing
  • Minimum 2 years post-registration experience in a clinical setting
  • Demonstrable GP practice or primary care experience
  • Independent Prescriber (IP) qualification not required for this role
  • Proficiency with EMIS Web or SystmOne
  • Strong clinical knowledge of ARRS-funded pharmacist responsibilities
