Support GP practices through Virtual Pharmacist’s managed clinical service

Virtual Pharmacist is inviting applications from GPhC-registered clinical pharmacists who are interested in providing remote clinical pharmacy services as independent contractors.

This opportunity sits within Virtual Pharmacist’s managed clinical pharmacy service. Work is offered by Virtual Pharmacist through the VP Panel and is carried out remotely using approved clinical systems, including EMIS Web or SystmOne.

The opportunity may suit experienced clinical pharmacists who want a steady flow of clinical work, typically around 18 to 30 hours per week, accepted assignment by assignment.

About Virtual Pharmacist

Virtual Pharmacist provides managed remote clinical pharmacy services to GP practices and primary care networks across England.

Our clinical and operational teams support the delivery of safe, structured and well-governed medicines-management services. Contractors working with Virtual Pharmacist use clear workflows, approved systems and established clinical governance processes to support patient care remotely.

What the work may involve

Practice work may include:

  • structured medication reviews
  • medicines optimisation
  • acute prescription request reviews
  • discharge medication reconciliation
  • long-term condition support within the pharmacist’s scope of practice
  • high-risk drug monitoring
  • clinical medicines queries
  • accurate recording in the relevant clinical system
  • escalation of clinical, safeguarding or service concerns where appropriate
  • liaison with GP practice teams where needed for safe service delivery

Specific work is offered by Virtual Pharmacist through the VP Panel or related VP workflow systems.

What we are looking for

We are looking for clinical pharmacists who can take on a steady flow of work and who are comfortable working remotely within a structured clinical service.

You should have:

  • current GPhC registration as a pharmacist
  • experience in general practice, PCN, primary care or medicines management
  • confidence using EMIS Web and/or SystmOne, or the ability to become familiar with the required systems
  • good clinical judgement
  • good written communication and record-keeping skills
  • a safe, organised and patient-focused approach
  • an understanding of information governance and confidentiality requirements
  • professional indemnity cover appropriate to the services provided

Working with Virtual Pharmacist

Contractors record their availability through the VP Panel. Virtual Pharmacist uses that availability to plan service capacity and offer Practice Work.

Practice Work is only binding once offered by Virtual Pharmacist and accepted by the contractor. Contractors are paid for services actually provided and properly invoiced in line with the agreed contractor terms.

This is not an employed role and does not include holiday pay, sick pay, pension contributions or employee benefits.
