One board, two very different footprints
Coventry’s practices are commissioned by NHS Coventry and Warwickshire ICB, which covers the city together with Nuneaton, Rugby, Leamington Spa, Warwick and the surrounding county. Some practices at the city’s western edge are commissioned by the Birmingham and Solihull board instead.
The board’s two halves behave differently. Coventry itself is a compact, diverse city with a large student population and significant deprivation in its northern and eastern wards. Warwickshire is older, wealthier on average and much more dispersed, with market town practices covering wide rural catchments.
For medicines work the practical difference is what backs up first. In the city it tends to be reconciliation and repeat volume driven by turnover; in the county it tends to be structured reviews and monitoring on older lists. A network spanning both benefits from one protocol and two different volume assumptions.

Do you have pharmacists based in this area?
No, and we do not claim to. Our pharmacists work remotely from across the UK, inside your clinical system. Nothing about the service depends on anyone being nearby, which is exactly why cover stays consistent: it never turns on who can travel on a given day.
Our PCN spans city and county practices. Does that complicate things?
Only if the capacity is averaged. We share the protocol and size the volume per practice, which is the arrangement that suits a split footprint.
Some practices near us report to the Birmingham board. Does that matter?
Not to us. We work to the requirements your own commissioner is measuring, and where a network spans two boards we scope that explicitly.
Can a whole network commission this together?
Yes. Scoping at network level usually means shared protocols, and audits that run once for every practice in the network.
How quickly can you start?
Typically a few weeks, and most of that is agreeing scope and protocols. The technical setup is the quick part.
