Clinical Pharmacist Support for GP Practices in Wolverhampton

Three commissioners meet at this city’s edges. We work to whichever is yours. Practices around Wolverhampton report to as many as three different boards depending on which side of the boundary they sit. Our clinical pharmacists work remotely inside your own system, to the requirements your own commissioner is measuring.

The service is available to every practice and PCN in Wolverhampton, delivered remotely by our UK team inside your own clinical system. We manage cover and delivery to the scope, operating days and escalation arrangements agreed with your practice. We hold no premises in Wolverhampton.

A city where the commissioning boundary runs through the suburbs

Wolverhampton’s practices are commissioned mainly by NHS Black Country ICB, alongside Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall. The city’s postcode area reaches into Staffordshire and towards Shropshire, so practices on the outer edges answer to those boards instead.

Diabetes is recorded above the England average across the city, and the register brings the workload that goes with it: annual reviews, titration, foot and retinal recall chasing, and the prescribing changes that follow each clinic.

For a network that spans a boundary, the practical need is one delivery standard with two sets of local requirements held alongside it. That is straightforward for a managed service and awkward for a single hire, which is a large part of why practices here look at commissioning the work instead.

What you buy is a managed service: supervision, cover, indemnity and clinical governance are all held by us. That is the practical difference between this and recruiting for the work yourself, and it is why the workstream keeps running whoever is available in a given week.

Selected practice-level QOF measures for Wolverhampton

These published figures provide context for medicines services. They describe registered practice populations, not all residents of Wolverhampton.

Diabetes (aged 17 and over)
QOF 2024/25; indicator 241; 39 practices with data
9.31% practice median England: 7.89%; difference: +1.42 percentage points

Source: OHID Fingertips, National General Practice Profiles, using NHS England QOF data. Practices are grouped by postal town extracted from the NHSBSA Prescriber Details address register and matched by ODS practice code. Each local figure is the unweighted median of the available practice percentages; for an even number of practices, the two middle values are averaged. The England figure is the published national prevalence value. Eligible age groups, periods and sample sizes are shown for each measure. The comparison is descriptive: it is not population-wide town prevalence, and no town-level statistical significance has been established. These practices are not a list of our clients.

What the first three months usually look like

Indicative, and shaped by what you hand over. Nothing here needs a change to how your practice already works.

Weeks 1 to 2

Scope agreed, including which commissioner’s requirements apply to each practice. Protocols and access follow.

Weeks 3 to 6

First workstream live to a fixed schedule, usually long-term condition clinics or reviews.

Weeks 7 to 12

Reporting per practice, mapped to the board each one answers to.

Excellent service from start to finish. Easy to reach, quick to reply, and they clearly know NHS workflows inside out. We couldn’t recommend the team more highly.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have pharmacists based in this area?

Our pharmacists deliver the agreed service remotely from within the UK, working in your clinical system. The service does not require a clinician to be based locally.

Some practices near us report to a different board. Does that matter?

Not to us. We work to the requirements your own commissioner is measuring, and where a network spans two boards we scope that explicitly so one set of priorities is never assumed to cover both.

Can you support patients who need an interpreter?

We work within your practice’s existing interpreting arrangements. What we add is the dedicated time to schedule and complete those reviews as routine.

What if our practice is not in a PCN arrangement?

We work with individual practices as well as networks. The service and the scoping conversation are the same.

Who supervises the pharmacist day to day?

We do, including CPD and indemnity. You agree the protocols and the schedule; the clinical governance sits with us.
